I’m Callum, and I think I should be your Chief of Staff. I’m great at analysis and strategy; I’ve got plenty of experience communicating with impact and managing complex stakeholder environments; and ultimately I’m just really good at making shit happen.
Technically Skilled
I’ve spent the past four years working at Bain & Co, growing from performing analysis to leading a small team. I’ve seen projects across heavy industrials, defense, and fintech (to name a few), and have had the chance to help large clients through merger processes, to prepare software companies for sale, and to guide leadership teams through long term strategy creation.
What I’m trying to say, is that when it comes to the tools of the trade, I’ve got them covered.
Limitless Learner
I pride myself on how quickly I can learn. Just last summer, I became the de facto expert on “steel refinery products” over a couple of weeks. More relatable for all of you at Matta, I studied three different subjects while at Cambridge: I was accepted for CompSci, changed to Philosophy, and then in my final year decided to read Natural Sciences, getting a 2.i every time.
I know this job means wearing many hats, and I know I’ll be good at wearing any additional hats you throw at me.
Culture Creator
I set examples for people to follow. From captaining a national u18s rugby team, to organising a May Ball, to being publicly recognized as a culture creator at Bain, I’ve consistently encouraged cultures of excellence and hard work. I love working with smart, motivated people, and bring positive energy no matter the pressure or situation.
Culture matters, and I can build, add, and share the culture at Matta as it grows. The first employees set the tone, and I will set the right tone.
I make shit happen
I think this is the most important thing for a good Chief of Staff. You need someone you can trust with big, chunky pieces of work, who isn’t afraid of taking action and won’t spend time over-analysing the situation or waiting for input.
This doesn’t mean being impulsive, or acting outside of the role’s remit, but it does mean that you (Matta’s leadership) can focus on the important things, and can trust me with the rest.
I’d love to work with you
The world needs to build a lot in the coming years. The energy transition will need help, and labour is only going to become more expensive. As a philosophical point, people should be doing rewarding and safe work, and I think Matta’s ambition will help all of this happen. I’d love to join Matta’s mission to rethink manufacturing.
